ParsonsAuthor Ann Cleeves has probably done more to spread word about the existence of the Shetland Islands around the globe than any other person or institution. Her murder mysteries featuring Shetlands Detective Inspector Jimmy Perez have generated enough interest for them to have been translated extensively. and to have been chosen by BBC for TV presentation. All of the above has happened because Ms. Cleeves is an excellent formulator of mystery plots. Additionally her writing skills include an extraordinary ability to give her characters life via print; and to give her readers lots of pleasure.Recently I learned that Ms. Cleeves has written a 216 pg. non-fiction. hardcover book titled simply . I bought a new and unblemished copy because I wanted to know more about those northern islands from Ms. Cleeves herself. and to have to refer to during times to come. Her comments include lightly and briefly-tied-in bits about her detective stories as they relate to places in the islands. In the back of the book is a double-page map of the Islands. The map constitutes a useful illustration because the hardcover book measures 10 in. X 10 in. (X 3/4 in.) -- meaning that said map. in color. is 10 in. X 20 in. -- plenty large for easy viewing. is chock full of brilliant color photographs which measure quarter page. half page and full page. Only a few old photos are black and white. Ms. Cleeves prose is woven through the collected photographs causing the complete product. over-all. to be the venue of the authors chosen information. plus much beautiful illustration to please the eye.. though smaller than the typical coffee-table book. qualifies as such.
