Nun aber muszlig; sein Museum wegen Brandschutzmauml;ngeln geschlossen werden. Als letzte Ausstellung vor der Schlieszlig;ung hat er sich etwas ganz Besonderes ausgedacht: Junge hollauml;ndische Kuuml;nstler sollen sich mit Meisterwerken der Sammlung auseinandersetzen. Der Titel der Schau: raquo;Duel. Dutch Artists Challenged by Modern Masters.laquo; Besonders angetan ist er von einer jungen Malerin; die sich darauf spezialisiert hat; bedeutende Gemauml;lde detailgenau zu kopieren. Diese wauml;hlt ein Schluuml;sselwerk von Mark Rothko und schafft ein verbluuml;ffend originalgetreues Abbild. Nach dem Ende der Ausstellung stellt dann allerdings der Restaurator des Museums fest; daszlig; nun die Kopie in der Sammlung ist. Das Original wurde von der Malerin gestohlen. Und Jelmer Verhooff stellt seinerseits fest; daszlig; Emma Duiker nicht nur Gemauml;lde kopiert; sondern eine Konzeptkuuml;nstlerin ist; deren eigentliches Werk darin besteht; Rothkos Gemauml;lde ohne jeden Hinweis auf dessen Wert und Bedeutung an alltauml;glichen Orten auf einfache Menschen wirken zu lassen. Verhooff macht sich sofort daran zu recherchieren; wo sich das Original befindet; um es zuruuml;ckzustehlen. Er lauml;szlig;t Emma Duikers Computer hacken; und als er erfauml;hrt; daszlig; sich der Rothko in der Schule fuuml;r Lernbehinderte einer slowenischen Kleinstadt befindet; macht er sich zusammen mit dem Restaurator auf den Weg. KearneySpencer Leighs PAUL SIMON--NOW AND THEN (1973) was arguably the first book ever on Paul Simon (and Art Garfunkel). Anyone who wrote a book afterwards and included a bibliography. included Spencer Leigh. a noted author and broadcaster on British music. Now he gives us a long-awaited (Id call 43 years long awaited!) followup taking us up to STRANGER TO STRANGER. I was reading it for old times sake rather than anticipating anything new to the world but I was wrong. There are many more new tidbits that fans might welcome. Leighs strong suit of course is Pauls favorite time--his early 1960s "English Period". if you will. And he manages to look at and comment upon almost every release associated with Paul. Art and Simon Garfunkel with a welcomed discography at the end. Mr. Leighs talked to just about everybody who comes along over there and while he gets a stray fact wrong once in a while (While I long for it. "Cuba Si.
