This is the first serious biography of a man widely considered one of Texasrsquo;mdash;and Americarsquo;smdash;greatest songwriters. Like Jimmie Rodgers; Woody Guthrie; Robert Johnson; and Hank Williams; Townes Van Zandt was the embodiment of that mythic American figure; the troubled troubadour. A Deeper Blue traces Van Zandtrsquo;s background as the scion of a prominent Texas family; his troubled early years and his transformation from promising pre-law student to wandering folk singer; his life on the road and the demons that pursued and were pursued by him; the women who loved and inspired him; and the brilliance and enduring beauty of his songs; which are explored in depth. The author draws on eight yearsrsquo; extensive research and interviews with Townesrsquo; family and closest friends and colleagues. He looks beyond the legend and paints a colorful portrait of a complex man who embraced the darkness of demons and myth as well as the light of deep compassion and humanity; all ldquo;for the sake of the song.rdquo;

Good but a little less than I hopedBy CustomerI was very excited about this book as a new Feldenkrais practitioner and 10 year vocal student. There is some useful information for sure about effective use of the body. and there is a good selection of exercises. I find that the instructions in some of the exercises are confusing though and the language in them is unclear compared to most of the ATM lessons I have taken. Also. I was hoping there would be more about resonance. but there wasnt much. Also. $30 is a bit much for a Kindle edition of a rather short book.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Developing voiceBy Weather-WomanMy friend who has used Feldenkrais for years turned me onto this book. I began the exercises recently and immediately began paying closer attention to my body. I am experiencing changes with my voice as I let go of the "yang/masculine" energy that constricts the vocal chords and balance it with the "yin/feminine" energy. She writes in clear and understandable English. It is very easy to follow the exercises because they stand out in bold type.
