It gives us the impressions and biases that characterize an architects ability to design. In Weltons book the act of drawing is the common thread; though used for distinctly different purposes. The technology v.s drawing polemic is expressed by all of the profiled architects; some more rabidly than others. Weltons insightful writing explains the integration of drawing; not only as used as an architectural tool but in many instances a life tool. For me it was especially poignant to learn of the multi- generational influences; from parent to child.Whether used for communication with clients or communions with land; it is the art of drawing that reflects a profound desire for these architects to know; and Welton gives us a fascinating window into this rigorous and heartfelt process.
