This particular product is meant for first graders ...By KayholdI have gotten several Kindle books from Baby Professor and most of them I have really enjoyed. This particular product is meant for first graders and it is about the early Pilgrims of America. The book starts off with short; simple explanations of what a pilgrim is and who the Pilgrims are that we always talk about. There are very cool illustrations in this book. The book also explains why they were called ldquo;Separatistsrdquo; and how they left on their journey across the Atlantic Ocean. The book goes over the Mayflower Compact and what it meant to the Pilgrims. Then it talks about the first Thanksgiving feast ndash; although it glosses over a lot of details with that. I have a child in kindergarten and a child in first grade. I think this is a cute book to start a discussion; but itrsquo;s pretty simplified for a first grader. Of course this book isnrsquo;t meant to be an entire history book or anything like that. When the Thanksgiving season comes around you could easily use this as a supplement to talk about the Pilgrims and look at some of the pictures. There are pictures of the homes they probably lived in and pictures of ships; and drawings of the Pilgrims and the Indians that are very interesting. I wish the pictures told more details. I wish that the drawing of the Pilgrims would say who the artist was. Then we could go more into detail and look up more by that artist. I wish that the picture of the boat would tell where that picture was taken. Was that the actual ship that the Pilgrims took? Is it just a random ship in a harbor? I have no idea; so donrsquo;t know what to tell my children. All in all this is a cute supplemental book but you will have to add a lot to it to make it worth it for a first grader or above; in my opinion. That is why I am really happy to be able to review 1st grade American HistoryBy AmandaAs a mom; I feel that it is important to help invest time on my kidsrsquo; education. Kids can only learn so much at school; and the growing number of kids in classrooms always make me worry that my kids are not getting enough one on one time on important subjects. That is why I am really happy to be able to review 1st grade American History: Early Pilgrims of America: First Grade Books. I am always looking for different tools to help me teach my kids; and I am glad to have come across this book. I read this book with my kids and some of the kids I babysit for. I found it to be perfect for the following ages: five; six; seven; ten and eleven. It was a very easy read and it made it easy for us to discuss early America. The one complaint I would have is I feel that some of the vocabulary they used would not be good for a first grader. While reading the book; I found myself changing some of the words that were used so I would not have to explain the word. I feel that vocabulary should not be so advanced; as a first grader would struggle with some of the words; but my ten year old and eleven year old would have no problems with the words. Outside of the vocabulary; I really did enjoy the book. I found it to be a good teaching tool. The book starts off with a simple expiation of what a pilgrims is. The book also goes over the Mayflower Compact and what it meant to the Pilgrims. It also talks about the first thanksgiving feast. We used that as an opportunity to discuss what the pilgrim did in compared to what we do to get ready for thanksgiving dinner. It was nice to see the kids relate to the book; and I think doing that will help them retain the information that they learned from the book. I will also say that I do like the book a lot but I also feel that it is a little simplified for a first grader; I feel they could handle a little more information and more detail. For example there are some really nice illustrations in the book; not a lot of information that goes along with them. Like who are the pilgrim; whatrsquo;s with the boats; There is no name to the artist leaving us no way to look up more information abit the illustration.; We however used that as an opportunity to let the kids tell us who the people in the picture was; and what they thought they were doing. Not exactly what I expected but okBy gr8ladyscWhen I ordered the book; I was under the impression that it was a small paper book and I was very impressed with the price. However; it is an 18 page book with around an 18 point font that can be downloaded to your tablet. Some of the pictures are in full color and others are in black and white. The language is fairly simple but there are a few words that make for a good vocabulary study centered around using context clues. It tells the basic story of the Pilgrims journey to America but leaves out how the Native Americans helped the Pilgrims learn to grow an hunt food which seems culturally an historically biased to me. Overall for the price; the facts and the pictures useful for students being home schooled or students who enjoy reading nonfiction text.I received this book at a discount in exchange for my honest review.
