[audiobook] Sociology Looks at the Arts (Contemporary Sociological Perspectives) by Julia Rothenberg in Arts-Photography

Description

For the first time; the complete story of Elvis Presleys recording career is told in this remarkable book. With exclusive access to the RCA vaults; rock producer Ernst Jorgensen brings to intimate life every moment that Elvis spent in the studio--from the spontaneous joy of his early sessions to the intensely creative periods of his later career. At once the definitive recording session guide and a compellingly readable narrative; Elvis Presley: A Life in Music is the ultimate companion to the singer and his songs.

Ms. Amrhein has a way of making history come alive through the pages.By Elena E.G.Irsquo;ve come to know the work of historian Cindy Amrhein through her first book; The Murders of Polly Frisch; a historical true crime story that reads like a modern murder mystery. This second book by Ms. Amrhein is just as enjoyable: Ms. Amrhein has a way of making history come alive through the pages. History of Native American Land Rights in Upstate New York encompasses a huge body of work that Ms. Amrhein has covered over years of researching Indian land titles and claims. It is truly interesting to follow the investigative work of a historian as she reconstructs the history of the land through documents that would otherwise be forgotten. A great book to savor one chapter at the time.1 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Please dont buy this book.By Joseph J. HeathThis is another distortion of Indigenous land rights; written by a non-Indian; with her land values from the dominant culture. It does not reflect the Haudenosaunees centuries of living on and being stewards of the land and water; or how NY state stole the land from them; so that they could sell it for profits.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. "The general government will never consent to your being defrauded; but it will protect you in all your just rights"By BlueEyesI really enjoyed reading this well laid out historical view of 200+ years of New York and USA history as it relates to the Native Americans who were the first peoples there. The author does a fabulous job explaining who the major players were; she explains what exactly the Major Treaties were and if the Natives every received any of the promises whether in land; money etc. "The United States learned it was far easier to bribe a few Indians who were willing to sign; whether or not they were chiefs; forcefully remove them from their own territory; and give them land elsewhere that had been taken from some other Indian tribe."Before reading this book; the only knowledge I had of this history was from my own family genealogy; when a relative joined the Butlers Rangers and fought along with the Natives who supported the King of England and my descendants ended up living in Ontario at Niagara on the Lake.So I found this book very enlightening; It was written in easy terms to understand; it was not dry or boring like some history textbooks tend to be. I found the author took a fair and impartial view of the players and she used facts from her searches to back up her points raised in the book. I would most definitely read more books by this talented author.
