[DOC] Somerville by Anthony Mitchell Sammarco at Arts-Photography

Description

First visited by English settlers in 1607; Virginia Beach has been a popular tourist destination ever since. The sea; sand; and sun are the most popular attractions; but throughout history the city has also been known for its unique architecture. The first geodesic dome built in the United States; designed by Buckminster Fuller; was the citys convention center for many years. The Cavalier Hotel; when built in 1927; was the states largest brick structure. The new Cape Henry lighthouse; completed in 1881; remains the tallest cast iron lighthouse in the country. The lighthouse it replaced; a structure that still stands today; was erected in 1791 and was the first federally funded structure built in the United States.

Being from Somerville it was very interesting but I still had to do "mapquest" to figure out where some of the pics were. Regardless. for people interested in Somerville background it was a good start.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I love this city.By Matthew FultonI was born in Somerville Ma and lived there for the first 12 years of my life and have been back to visit countless times. I love Somervile and the state of Massachusetts. I really like this book. It is an easy reader with lots of pictures and short captions about each picture. I really would have liked more modern pictures. Maybe pictures from the 1960s thru 2000. The book really only shows wicked old pictures and not to much of anything else. Was there not any Somerville history in the second half of the 20th century? What about Assembly Square and the Edsel or the T and how Somerville became the "suburubs" of Boston. I dont wnat to come off as disappointed but this book could have been a whole lot better if it covered the history of Somerville to the present.
