Wentworth was instrumental in getting the railroad to stop here. Sandwich; surrounded by the fairest and most fertile country; was advertised in 1892 as one of the most beautiful and prosperous cities in northern Illinois. Its agricultural implements; made by the Sandwich Manufacturing Company and Enterprise Company; were shipped worldwide. Sandwich is now known for its annual county fair; antique shows; and shopping.

Here are some of the facts that this book mentions: Rancho Santa Teresa was a Spanish land grant deeded to Jose Joaquin Bernal. a member of the Juan Bautista de Anza party of 1776. The Bernal family continued to operate the ranch until 1980. Madrone predates the city of Morgan Hill by about 50 years. Madrone was annexed by the city of Morgan Hill in 1958. The 18 Mile House (Madrone Hotel) building was converted to the Sinaloa Mexican Food Restaurant. The restaurant burned down in the late part of the 1990rsquo;s decade. Part of present day Gilroy was known as San Ysidro and it grew out of the original Spanish settlement. It was named after the Ortega family land grant. The Anderson Dam and Reservoir were named for Leroy Anderson. the first president of the Santa Clara Valley Conservation District. Anderson became the largest man-made reservoir in Santa Clara County. The Winter of 1914 had 28.79 inches of precipitation flooding Downtown Gilroy.
