(Book). Making music at any level is a powerful gift. While musicians have endless resources for learning the basics of their instruments and the theory of music; few books have explored the other subtleties and complexities that musicians face in their quest to play with ease and skill. The demands of solitary practice; hectic rehearsal schedules; challenging repertoire; performance pressures; awkward postures; and other physical strains have left a trail of injured; hearing-impaired; and frustrated musicians who have had few resources to guide them. Playing Less Hurt addresses this need with specific tools to avoid and alleviate injury. Impressively researched; the book is invaluable not only to musicians; but also to the coaches and medical professionals who work with them. Everyone from dentists to orthopedists; audiologists to neurologists; massage therapists and trainers will benefit from Janet Horvaths coherent account of the physiology and psyche of a practicing musician. Writing with knowledge; sympathetic insight; humor; and aplomb; Horvath has created an essential resource for all musicians who want to play better and feel better.

Take a ride on the bus for 40 plus years journey bringing the music to the fansBy MavisI have been a fan of The Oak Ridge Boys since their gospel music days. I love Joes style of writing; his books are like sitting down to have a conversation with a life long friend. I highly recommend this book; not just to fans but to anyone that wants a little insight of life on the road. Some performers are one hit wonders; others burn bridges and rungs of the ladder to success; the Oaks know and appreciate the fans that have been along for the ride. These gentlemen are entertainers on stage; but just as importantly are true decent hard working men off stage. It doesnt matter if they are dining with presidents or signing autographs at some country fair in middle America; they treat everyone with gracious down to earth humble friendliness. One of my favorite parts in this book Joe speaks of venues that have closed over the years; he mentions the beautiful Carlton where we first saw them perform many years ago; he discusses singing the National Anthem for sporting events (some for losing teams here)Ive had the privilege of meeting Mr Bonsall a few times and he always takes time to say hello. God Bless these amazing men; looking forward to their concert here in a few days.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. This Book on Oakridge Boys is a must read and keeper;!!!!!By ronnie nuttThis book is a must read for not only Oakridgeboys fans; but; for all who wonder with amazement how a group of individuals can come be a band of brothers and still touring after almost 5 decades. These guys have a Christian based solid footing foundation not ashamed at the drop of a hat to witness their love for Christ;their families; their fans;the veterans;their music industry and friends and the USA!! Joe is a master with words and sharing history;events and the harmony of his 3 non biological brothers Duane Allen; William Lee Golden and Richard Sterban. I have bought several copies to give to family and friends and read mine from start to finish the day I got my first shipment. Do yourself a big favor;get this ordered now;love it!!!3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A friend and fans thoughtsBy martin ratcliffIts fairly easy to write a review for this book...the book comes from the heart of the man that wrote it..nothing fancy..nothing delivered with any flair or drama..nothing written out of context to increase sales...like their new album "Rock of Ages" it is stripped down and raw..emphasizing their enormous vocal power this book emphasizes Joe Bonsalls raw emotions and memories and it utterly just flows from his soul! When musical history from this era is written these guys will have a spot at the top..one of the reasons why (besides the music) is through Joes book we see so much of the "hows and whys" their enormous career came together..the decisions made..the interaction with the people in Nashville and beyond who provided them with the music and of course how they transformed the written words of the song in "3 minutes of magic"....and these guys have a ton of "3 minutes of magic songs"I started reading the book after work one day and got to page 180 in the snap of a finger..this included reading many a paragraph over and over because what was written marked a point in time to me..not only did it bring back memories but it would make me look forward to making more with these guys......finished the book the first time later that same night..have read it twice since thenTHE BOOK IS MAGICAL....the author is an intelligent soul..full of enthusiasm for his profession..full of enthusiasm for his friendships..and a true professional of the music business.....I count him as a friend..may not see him but 2-3 times per year but its always a blessing to get to spend time with himif you are an Oak Ridge fan or not consider this book for your library...id give it 10 stars if possible......#blessings
