However; the author writes; "The fun house; or Magic Carpet as it was officially known..." and proceeds to show photos (which are fine) of the Fun House; its important to note that the Magic Carpet and the Fun House were two different rides/attractions at Playland. (Both burnt down in 1966.) The Magic Carpet was a walk-through attraction with an orange/black tilted room; a dark twisty maze with electric pop-up "scares;" and featured amusing little surprises like blow-holes which sent womens skirts swirling upward. At the very end of the ride; one sat on an actual undulating carpet that flowed through double doors and deposited the laughing patron at the exit. The Fun House did have a barrel roll; a huge indoor slide and the spinning disc; etc. and you could spend as much time as you liked there; but these two rides were distinctly separate and different from each other and to confuse them in a historic account of this wonderful art-deco amusement park detracts from this otherwise engaging look at Playland.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Too many older pictures of the parkBy Andrew VancottWe used to go here every year whne i lived on Long Island. The reason i gave it 4 stars was that there were not enough newer pictures of the park and i would have liked to see more from the 70s and 80s - it is still a fine book and i do recommned it for purchase0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
