Description

Newport Beach; with its picturesque harbor and 10 miles of sandy beaches; has seen great change since its beginnings in the post-Civil War era. Originally a shipping port; it evolved into a haven for movie stars; rumrunners; and gamblers and finally transformed into todays exclusive beach community and popular vacation destination. In his third book on Newport Beach; author and longtime resident Jeff Delaney opens a door between Newports past and what remains.

I was researching an architect who designed some buildings in Napa and St. Helena and I found him mentioned several times in this book. This is what makes this a good book. the research went deeper than you find in many of these Arcadia books. This is a good one.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Fascinating historyBy Donna HFor those familiar with St Helena. a small town in the heart of the Napa Valley. this is a must read. It is full of pictures of people and places dating back a century ago. Much of the information was donated by ancestors still living in the region. I found it a facinating colection showing the evolution of this quaint little town.
