[audiobook] Starting Drama Teaching by Mike Fleming in Arts-Photography

Description

Over his twenty-plus year tenure in Hollywood; Spike Lee has produced a number of controversial films that unapologetically confront sensitive social issues; particularly those of race relations and discrimination. Through his honest portrayals of lifes social obstacles; he challenges the public to reflect on the worlds problems and divisions. The innovative director created a name for himself with feature films such as Do the Right Thing (1989) and Malcolm X (1992); and with documentaries such as 4 Little Girls (1997) and When the Levees Broke (2006); breaking with Hollywoods reliance on cultural stereotypes to portray African Americans in a more realistic light. The director continues to produce poignant films that address some of modern societys most important historical movements and events. In The Philosophy of Spike Lee; editor Mark T. Conard and an impressive list of contributors delve into the rich philosophy behind this filmmakers extensive work. Not only do they analyze the major themes of race and discrimination that permeate Lees productions; but also examine other philosophical ideas that are found in his films; ideas such as the nature of time; transcendence; moral motivation; self-constitution; and justice. The authors specialize in a variety of academic disciplines that range from African American Studies to literary and cultural criticism and Philosophy.

Review
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great Book after youve had a little experience teaching.By Judy HanelWhen I first bought this book I skimmed it and thought it was too theoretical and not practical enough. I was looking for specific activities to use in the classroom. But half way through my second year of teaching drama. which was new to me. I read it again and it all made sense. I could now relate to the difficulties of teaching drama. the differences between dramatic play and drama as theatre and the challenge of actually building skills. I used the "Pied Piper" lesson plan for my year 3 and 4 classes and it was a success. I finally started to build confidence in how to sequence lessons. I also realized the importance of exploring the content and themes within the drama being performed rather than just looking at drama skills such as voice and movement etc. It became my favourite resource book in 2016. Now I can use my other practical drama books more effectively with this as a foundation. I would recommend this to someone who has already had a year of teaching drama or for someone who has studied drama as part of their teacher training program and has already taught some lessons and has some sense of the complexities of teaching drama.
