The Author takes various bass runs and intersperses licks. The complexity increases; and you can quickly see "how the pros do it". The CD quality is good--sometimes; guitar examples on other products tend to overwhelm the student--here; I found the playing forthright; and incredibly good. I didnt feel like the author was "showing off"--I was hearing what the "end objective" was. The book is a really good value for the Intermediate guitarist who wants to get "all of the plates spinning" at the same time.Take this book to a cabin someplace and spend the week--youll come back a wickedly good guitarist.19 of 22 people found the following review helpful. My Favorite Practice Book EVER (after decades of playing; too)By NunyuzOut of thirty years of guitar playing; this is my favorite practice book EVER. I know all sorts of music theory. scales; techniques; been playing in bands for years; etc. but for once; this one is FUN. It goes from easy to more complex; and you can find COMPLETE little songs to fit your mood and what you feel like playing. Dont feel that youre just copping someone elses song templates...you ARE; but it ramps up compostion real fast to do it this way; and if you have a decent amount of experience playing; youll be able to throw in your own licks and make them your own. This is a GREAT book to just get started jamming for the day when youre not sure what you feel like doing. Its also terrific way to start writing songs; too. Use these as templates; then once youve got the groove down; then substitute your own chord changes and leads.Sounds like a crutch? Well; yes; it is; but thats welcome when you get overwhelmed between arranging; comping and improv.Think of this as the best warm up book ever. Its doubled; nay; tripled my playing time. The thing that makes this book different is the way you just get going on a whole tune by yourself quickly; without a band or backing track. Its satisfying. By the time you get to either one of those; youll know exactly where youre headed. Far from leading you to be a clone of cover tunes. it turns out to be a great confidence builder and template for creativity. The blues pieces are simple fun while the Coltrane changes are a terrific way to penetrate jazz improv. I find myself able to apply all that theory I never used outside of my room into arrangements. Buy this! The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.I LOVE this book. Its my first purchase from Troy Nelson; and its got me interested in his other books.Good job!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. its good for giving you ideas and concepts but hard to ...By RicardoAnother book ; that doesnt help you to learn; its good for giving you ideas and concepts but hard to paly and learn
