This book is meant for other scholars already versed in the Middle Ages and one wonders if one were well versed already; why the read? Mr. Huizinga makes many observations supported by long unclear proofs naming personages the average reader either never heard of or knows little about. The overall expression about the changing world view of the late Middle Ages and the impact of it on the culture is the highlight of the book and could have been accomplished in far fewer words. I cannot recommend the book except to the very accomplished scholar who would read it to dispute some of the authors conclusions.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A classic; over and over againBy Susana CondeJust as interesting when I read it sixty years ago as now. A good reminder that sometimes original thought remains original over time.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good service.
