George Taylors Town Planning for Australia was the first dedicated book on the subject of urban planning published in Australia. Journalistic and ideological in style; it sets out a robust vision for a specifically Australian approach to planning and development of towns in a young country. Taylor was a controversial figure; a political activist and publisher who brought the NSW Town Planning Association into existence and played a key role in publishing and promoting planning into the 1920s.His wife Florence Taylor was the first female qualified architect and trained engineer in Australia; and an important figure in the history of planning and publishing in Australia.

The only problem is she didnt write it 12 years ago!By PollyhyperThis is the book I wish Id had when I was just starting out on my own; and the book I wish Id thought to write after moving house about 10 times since I first started college!Yee-Fan does a great job of fitting all kinds of information into this book; and speaks in a voice that is easy to read but not patronizing to first-time renters. Shes been there; done that; and wants to pass all that shes learned; good and bad; on to you!Everyone has lived in the white cardboard-box style apartment; and signed the lease that says "no painting; no restoration; no personality." This book has a TON of ways to get around all that and really make a rental your own. Once you read this book from cover to cover; you can satisfy your need for more by culling through countless articles on the website.Ill be buying a copy for every person I know that moves out on their own.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Nothing New In This BookBy Jessica InmanMy biggest complaint with this book is that there is no new information in it that you havent already read or heard somewhere else. Additionally; this authors personal style seems to be to collect a lot of stuff; which could ultimately lead to a cluttered home. I liked the chapter on how to decorate your walls by making your own art. But over all; not any new information; and the author is very wordy. She takes numerous pages to say simple things. One more complaint; but a minor one; is that the photos in this book are black and white; not in color.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
