In all film there is the desire to capture the motion of life; to refuse immobility; Agnes Varda has noted. But to capture the reality of human experience; cinema must fasten on stillness and inaction as much as motion. Slow Movies investigates movies by acclaimed international directors who in the past three decades have challenged mainstream cinemas reliance on motion and action. More than other realist art cinema; slow movies by Lisandro Alonso; Nuri Bilge Ceylan; Pedro Costa; Jia Zhang-ke; Abbas Kiarostami; Cristian Mungiu; Alexander Sokurov; Bela Tarr; Gus Van Sant and others radically adhere to space-times in which emotion is repressed along with motion; editing and dialogue yield to stasis and contemplation; action surrenders to emptiness if not death.

Very cool basic ebook I just wish these books would go into greater detail...very vivid pictures...By ElizabethAnother Baby Professor book with vivid pictures. There are about 200 books in this ebook series that are offered in the kindle store for either free or for .99cent;. You cant really go wrong with the books offered for free. There is a variety of subjects covered and most of the books follow about the same format. You can take a peek inside the books by clicking "Look Inside" and this is pretty much what you get in each book.I like this particular book. The format for this book is the same as most of the Baby Professor books in this series which have a picture with a paragraph and facts on one page. Then the next page is just a photo. It would be nice if they had another paragraph on that page too.I am very aware that these books are also in need some major editing and at times I wonder if all the "facts" are really correct since Ive found several mistakes in other books. For example; this book states that the Arctic tundra is mostly in the northern hemisphere. Im not sure but I thought it was all in the northern hemisphere? Anyone know the answer? When I google the answer; I see lots of pictures of just the Northern hemisphere. Maybe the Antarctic Tundra if there is such a thing.Anyway; overall; I do like theses books for their wonderful pictures. It would be nice if the books went into more detail but they are very basic books that I hope will get my kids interested in finding more about each subject.I plan on keeping these books on my iPad for down time for my kids when they get bored waiting different places like the doctors office or practice for a sibling. I sometimes watch a friends 3 year old daughter and she likes to look through the pictures on my phone. I plan on showing her these books to keep her entertained. I think she will love them.***** I received this ebook for free for my honest review. *****0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Fun Facts; Arctic Animals!By Brad and April McKinleyWhat a great book to cover a few of the animals that you can find an article. The illustrations are fantastic and very colorful and vivid. The content of the book is very simple for a basic reader which is most likely what you use this book for. Learn about everything from polar bears to arctic foxes to Caribou that youll find in or around the arctic. The only reason I get this book at four instead of a five star review is the fact that I wish there were more animals included as it is very short and simple. All in all; I would definitely recommend this book to anybody that is interested in animals of the Arctic; especially those in a pre-school or kindergarten setting. I was fortunate enough to receive this book at a discount rate in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion which is exactly what I have provided this review and will update immediately if anything changes.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good Pictures; Bad GrammarBy coracatI ordered this book for my second grader and while the pictures were nice; the grammar was not the best; and while the book may teach your child something about animals; it is not a book I would recommend for children who are learning and developing their English skills; such as reading and writing; which for me are two equally important aspects of a book. The errors were not glaring; however it seems that the book was not edited before publishing/distribution. (Disclaimer/disclosure: I was gifted this product by the distributor/seller for the purpose of review).
