Harrison has a good understanding of the way rhythm works in pop (i.e.; non-classical) music. The examples are mostly two and four bar grooves; which use interesting harmonic progressions that are as instructive as the rhythms. The etudes at the end; which allow you to stretch out; are fully formed mini-pieces in a variety of styles. The accompanying CD lets you here how the groove should sound AND you can silence the piano and play along with very realistic backing tracks. Whether I can incorporate the material into my playing remains to be seen; but it does wonders for my fingers and brain. If you are just starting out; the material may be a little deep; but I think anyone looking to improve the groove should get something from this book.
