Suffering; Art; and Aesthetics

[ebooks] Suffering; Art; and Aesthetics by From Palgrave Macmillan in Arts-Photography

Description

This book establishes an analytical model for the description of existing translations in their historical context within a framework suggested by systemic concepts of literature. It argues against mainstream 20th-century translation theory and; by proposing a socio-cultural model of translation; takes into account how a translation functions in the receiving culture. The case studies of successive translations of "Hamlet" in France from the eighteenth century neoclassical version of Jean-Francois Ducis to the 20th-century Lacanian; post-structuralist stage production of Daniel Mesguich show the translator at work. Each chapter focuses on a different aspect of the changing theatrical and literary norms to which translators through the ages have been bound by the expectations both of their audiences and the literary establishment.

Im an aspiring actress and what I wouldnt give to get into the mind of the casting directors who have worked with Spielberg and other "greats." Dude. Its important to know HOW things work in the industry. Its important to get to KNOW who your potential future co-workers can be. Professionals go to college to learn from professors who have been in their industry. Since film actors dont have "Movie Star University"--we have to rely on books like this to be our "text books."These ladies know what theyre looking for when they are searching for lead roles; supporting roles; or "small" roles; and they SHARE that info... and if you are an aspiring actor; why not capitalize on that? I didnt buy this book for gossip on movie stars; who the heck cares. Im an aspiring actor; HOPING to WORK with those "movie stars" and possibly be one myself----READ THIS BOOK ACTORS. Its helpful and an ENCOURAGING read. Jane Janet are super duper cool for writing this book. God bless them.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Required reading for anyone in the Film and Television industry.By Your Acting CoachI must have read this book over at least three times. I have been fortunate enough to even meet Janet in a workshop. This book goes through both the life of Casting Directors who found some of the biggest stars in Hollywood. Youll hear their personal journeys as they climb the ladder of success in Hollywood. As an Actor I learned more about the process of Casting than I ever thought possible. This book helped my confidence and was a great guide to knowing what to do and what not to do in this industry. For anyone who wants or is working the Film and Television industry; this book is a must! Those who arent learning in this industry get left behind. This book will help you understand the process of casting in ways I have found no other book could.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Run-of-the-mill name dropperBy Ga303Just another name-dropping attempt by talentless people to cash in on the talents of others. Boring and tedious to boot.
