This book focuses on the spatial transformations in the most dynamically evolving urban areas of post-socialist Central and Eastern Europe. It links the restructuring of the built environment with the underlying processes and the forces of socio-economic reforms. The detailed accounts of the spatial transformations in a key moment of urban history in the region enhance our understanding of the linkages between society and space.

An Historic Journey in Clifton; VABy L. A. HagemannWhat a delight it has been to take a few hours; put on some old recordings; and take a walk back in time with this book. Lynne Garvey-Hodge has given us a wonderful 127 page journey thru the history of Clifton; VA. The black and white photos are outstanding; Civil War rail shots of locomotives on their fragile trestles; examples of fine scripophily; beautiful homes at the turn of the century (now gone); and contemporary winter scenes that should adorn Christmas cards. All of these are beautifully woven with a most interesting narrative that can only come from someone who has a passionate interest in and love of the peoples and the area of Clifton. Wonderfully done!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Average ReadBy Warren RosiakWas very excited to get this book but it feels like it was put together in a rather sloppy fashion. Not terrible but really not that great.
