Syd Barrett Pink Floyd: Dark Globe

[ePub] Syd Barrett Pink Floyd: Dark Globe by Julian Palacios in Arts-Photography

Description

Thom Rouse seems to have an unbridled artistic sensibility. In this book; he offers up for review sixty of his favorite fine-art images. Rouse takes photographers behind the scenes of his creative process; showing the starting point—always a portrait; captured by him—and then details the Photoshop tools and techniques he used and; sometimes; some “accessoryrdquo; images that he adds into the mix; to create a dramatically different work of art. While the components and tone of each image vary from page to page; Rouse strictly maintains that his creative process is based on the idea that each work of art must; at its core; remain photographic. In other words; his fine-art works are enhanced; stylized portraits that transcend the limits typically self-imposed by portrait artists. His goal in creating the book is to educate and inspire other photographers—or; in the words of the artist—to “show you something you havenrsquo;t seen before.rdquo; This book features a collection of beautiful portraits that collide with a strange collections of elements—one portrait; entitled Shhhh; is coupled with ornamental wooden fish; goose wings; and parts of an aircraft; another; called Andromeda; uses complex Photoshop blending techniques and texture layers to create a Gustav Klimt-inspired feel in the photograph—to create a storytelling piece that elevates the portrait to a fine art category. On page after page; yoursquo;ll discover how Rouse conceptualized the featured work of art; the steps he took to bring the concept to life; and the curiously beautiful artistic portrait result.

Its almost like being there.By Spielberg FanThis is by far the best. most detailed. and artfully written account of the rise and fall of Syd Barrett that I have read. The author delves into things other Floyd biographers have glossed over. interviewing people only tangentially mentioned in other books. We get the perspective of Syds ex-girlfriends. neighbors. and friends. He talks to psychiatrists about what they thought Syd might have been going through. delves into the creative process with Syds time in Pink Floyd and his career as a solo artist. If youre a fan of the band. the man. or just curious about London in the late sixties. you cant go wrong with this large tome (the print is small. so its like reading a book twice its size).4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Makes me cry my heart outBy Pike Anneli ViitanenIts a very detailed history of the poet of his time and the music he made rich with information about the scene around him. Sometimes even e bit boring with all the sidelines. but at the end you cant but feel strongly for Barret and how he was left alone wandering in the dark and while his "managers" and band"mates" pushed him over the edge and went on sponging on both on his story (Shine on. Dark side of the moon etc etc) and on his legacy as a composer and a writer.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Roger Keith Barrett lives!By Eugene R. GraffExcellent book that pierces the veil of the generally-accepted band narrative of Syds fall from grace. and while not providing conclusive proof. paints a much richer and more detailed portrait of a legendary 20th Century artist. Highly recommended.
