Taccuini futuristi (Fogli volanti) (Italian Edition)

[audiobook] Taccuini futuristi (Fogli volanti) (Italian Edition) by Umberto Boccioni in Arts-Photography

Description

From the color of a politicianrsquo;s tie; to exorbitantly costly haircuts; to the size of an American flag pin adorning a lapel; itrsquo;s no secret that style has political meaning. And there was no time in history when the politics of fashion was more fraught than during the French Revolution. In the 1790s almost any article of clothing could be scrutinized for evidence of onersquo;s political affiliation. A waistcoat with seventeen buttons; for example; could be a sign of counterrevolutionmdash;a reference to Louis XVIImdash;and earn its wearer a trip to the guillotine. In Dandyism in the Age of Revolution; Elizabeth Amann shows that in France; England; and Spain; daring dress became a way of taking a stance toward the social and political upheaval of the period. France is the centerpiece of the story; not just because of the significance of the Revolution but also because of the speed with which its politics and fashions shifted. Dandyism in France represented an attempt to recover a political center after the extremism of the Terror; while in England and Spain it offered a way to reflect upon the turmoil across the Channel and Pyrenees. From the Hair Powder Act; which required users of the product to purchase a permit; to the political implications of the feather in Yankee Doodlersquo;s hat; Amann aims to revise our understanding of the origins of modern dandyism and to recover the political context from which it emerged.

Excellent pictoral historyBy BookhoundThis is an excellent pictoral history of Clark Gable. While this book contains quite a bit of written history about the man; the real intent of the author....Chrystopher Spicer.... was to provide a strong profile of Gable; evidenced by pictures. This book was conceived and presented as a companion work to Spicers earlier in-depth biography of Gable; a biography that is considered to be the definitive accounting of Gable. If you have an interest in this most fascinating man....Clark Gable....Spicers twin publications are an absolute " must read ".4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Not worth the price; not as candid as implied.By L. EklundInteresting in its limited way; but very few pictures that have not been published in other books. The author reprints sections from his previous biography on Gable and has little more to add in addition for this companion publication. I would recommended this book for any Gable fan if it wasnt for the price of the book. I do recommend Spicers 2001 CLARK GABLE: BIOGRAPHY; FILMOGRAPHY; BIBLIOGRAPHY; as it is one of the best written in a very intertaining; upbeat style.
