And it seems like it is going to be another mother trying to find herself with her kids thing - its not. Fran is a cynical. amusing and very self-aware New Yorker finding her high heeled feet in Singapore. There are many laugh aloud insights in here and its a great portrait of expat life. Wrong Fran Lebowitz and this one is a self loathing boreBy PhredIf. like me you leapt upon this book thinking it was another work by the author of Metropolitan Life or Social Studies This is not that Fran Lebowitz.It does not say so anywhere except in some of the and it is incorrectly listed on the books by Fran Lebowitz page.THIS IS NOT THAT FRAN LIBOWITZ!This FL is a neurotic. self-obsessed. self-loathing bore. The narrative is supposed to be some kind of internal dialoged but that mostly covers for abrupt jumps in time. space and topic. Major themes get introduced and dropped.A woman gets a chance of a life time to live a very well to do life in an exotic setting complete with a live in maid and a very wise and supportive circle of friends. As she drinks. smokes parties and whines and complains about mostly herself. we are supposed to feel what?Whatever the difference is between self-depreciating humor and self-loathing pathology this FL pounds on past that limit - the one pleasure of her life is running - only her book has you dragging behind gasping for some sign of relief.Run away. Save yourself.
