Rochester may be better known for its rolling hills and lilac fields than for its architecture; but look closely and the citys hidden gems reveal themselves. In this survey of Rochesters historic architectural elements and styles; city planner Michael Behrendt encourages you to "slow down; look round--check out the fancy cornices on North Main Street and admire the brickwork on the few remaining mill structures." Impress your neighbors by pointing out the Italianate; Queen Anne; Georgian or Federal styles of their houses and identifying the mansard roofs; oriel windows and porticos around town. Drawing from his series of articles written for the Rochester Times; Behrendt examines everything from barns; churches and schoolhouses to the prominent Rochester Opera House. Discover Rochesters history as written in brick and stone; marble and mortar.

The term RB is used loosely by me; and by the author. In order to fully understand RB specifically; a wider musical net is spread historically. The book is a good; and quite historical read. That was a great plus for me. My only very small negative is I would have enjoyed a few more anecdotes; vignettes; quotations; experiences to further paint the smell and scent of the world he describes.Read the book! Its worth the money.Oh; check out the publish date as it doesnt cover the most recent years of musical history.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
