Excellent practical approach to drawing the human figure in proportionBy Irish in CarmichaelExcellent practical approach to drawing the human figure in proportion. Massen provides numerous examples of body and body parts in relation to the body in a way that provides perspective and a means to keep the various parts of the body in proportion in the initial draft and then to analyze and edit or re-draft to generate focus; movement and convey the purpose or message of the figure. Simple enough for any beginner. Advanced enough to provide insights and thoughts for the intermediate or experienced artist. A relatively inexpensive and hands on exemplary text.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Not just for beginners. Teaches accurate proportions for all situations.By Allen MewesIf you struggle at all with getting accurate; believable proportions in your drawings; or simply need a reminder at times while you work out a difficult pose; then this book is for you. Im admittedly only halfway through it right now; but Ive already picked up lots of things to help as I work through various issues. The book covers nearly every body part and shows how to size them appropriately as compared to other body parts in order to match what we; as humans; expect to see in a "normal" figure. Aside from thorough size comparisons for you to reference on your model (or yourself in the mirror); there are also "demonstrations" regarding how to apply the principles during a live session. I would say that everybody from beginner to advanced could benefit from the information provided. Even if youre highly trained in figure studies; there are enough "quick" details to jog your memory during a tough situation that I would still say its worth the price of admission.0 of 7 people found the following review helpful.
