Taoist Feng Shui: The Ancient Roots of the Chinese Art of Placement

[DOC] Taoist Feng Shui: The Ancient Roots of the Chinese Art of Placement by Susan Levitt at Arts-Photography

Description

For close to two hundred years; the ideas of Shakespeare have inspired incredible work in the literature; fiction; theater; and cinema of China; Taiwan; and Hong Kong. From the novels of Lao She and Lin Shu to Lu Xuns search for a Chinese "Shakespeare;" and from Feng Xiaogangs martial arts films to labor camp memoirs; Soviet-Chinese theater; Chinese opera in Europe; and silent film; Shakespeare has been put to work in unexpected places; yielding a rich trove of transnational imagery and paradoxical citations in popular and political culture. Chinese Shakespeares is the first book to concentrate on both Shakespearean performance and Shakespeares appearance in Sinophone culture and their ambiguous relationship to the postcolonial question. Substantiated by case studies of major cultural events and texts from the first Opium War in 1839 to our times; Chinese Shakespeares theorizes competing visions of "China" and "Shakespeare" in the global cultural marketplace and challenges the logic of fidelity-based criticism and the myth of cultural exclusivity. In his critique of the locality and ideological investments of authenticity in nationalism; modernity; Marxism; and personal identities; Huang reveals the truly transformative power of Chinese Shakespeares.

Taoist Feng Shui by Susan LevittBy squee bratThis is a nice and tidy version of Feng Shui providing history and overview of Chinese culture. This information providesthe reader the information about how some of these concepts came about. (To listen and pay attention to nature andwhat is right before us.) I liked this reminder as this concept is open to everyone. This is a good book to learn from.1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. From a Taoists perspectiveBy Robert DumontFirst off. the calendar dates in the back of the book are the correct starting ending dates for the years. This means the author and publisher recognized and corrected the discrepencies in Susan Levitts astrology book. Though I am a practitioner of Taoism I am new to Feng Shui. This book is one of the best sources for learning to practice basic Feng Shui techniques. It even gives you tips and info reguarding what areas to focus on depending on what animal and element you were born into. This book also gives you tips on what to avoid doing. Im giving this book a 4-star rating because the information is not as well organized as the astrology book. The information seems to be somewhat scattered and in some instances backwards. The astrology book also seemed to be written backwards but the info was organized exactly how I would have done it. This is otherwise a very good and helpful book and I will study it further to apply the techniques to my and my familys own situations.
