In the process; I thought I had gotten pretty good at reading Venetian dialect as well as Italian; since he uses that language for his lower-class characters; but I couldnt handle this play because of the language. For instance; of the engaged couple who are at the center of the story; the man speaks Italian and the woman speaks Venetian; and thats fine. However; the women; such as a washerwoman; whose gossip causes trouble for the young couple; speak in what I assume is a lower class Venetian and I found it pretty much incomprehensible.
