Sie war gekennzeichnet durch die Verbindung der verschiedenen Kuuml;nste; sowie durch die Entwicklung eines neuen Geschichtsbewusstseins. So hatte auch der Fruuml;hromantiker Novalis eine ganz eigene poetische Geschichts- und Staatsauffassung entwickelt. Dies wird besonders deutlich an seiner Rezeption des Mittelalters.Das Geschichtsbild Novalis` hauml;lt einer fachhistorischen Untersuchung nach heutigen Maszlig;stauml;ben mit Sicherheit nicht stand. In dieser Arbeit soll es jedoch nicht darum gehen; ob das Mittelalterbild des Novalis historisch korrekte Tatsachen vermittelt. Es soll vielmehr der Frage nachgegangen werden; welchen Standpunkt der Romantiker gegenuuml;ber der Geschichte in seiner Welt und Zeit einnimmt. Viele Romantiker beschauml;ftigten sich mit dem Mittelalter; welches im ausgehenden 18. Jahrhundert im Zuge der Aufklauml;rung einen besonders schlechten Ruf genoss. Die Romantik jedoch entwickelte ein vouml;llig neues Bild dieser Epoche. Welche Motivation hatte Novalis sich mit der Vergangenheit zu beschauml;ftigen? Dazu wird zunauml;chst zu klauml;ren sein; welches Konzept er uuml;berhaupt von geschichtlichen Entwicklungen hatte. Diese Geschichtsauffassung soll anhand seines Aufsatzes bdquo;Ueber die Ordalien oder Gottesurtheileldquo; deutlich gemacht werden.Das Mittelalterbild; welches Novalis in der Rede bdquo;Die Christenheit oder Europaldquo; entwickelt; entsprach weder der aufklauml;rerischen Auffassung des Mittelalters; noch fand es Zustimmung im Romantikerkreis rund um die Gebruuml;der Schlegel; Tieck und Goethe. Ist die Kritik; Novalis habe das Mittelalter und den Katholizismus idealisiert und verherrlicht; gerechtfertigt? Um diese Frage zu beantworten; muss neben seiner Geschichtsauffassung auch die Absicht seiner Rede genauer betrachtet werden; ansonsten ist das Mittelalterbild Novalis` nicht in seiner wahren Intention zu verstehen.

Good info on Disneys life. but written in an odd. dismissive toneBy Roger the Lion HeartedIf you are curious about Walt Disneys life. and how he came to take cinematic animation to a new level. and how he came to create Disneyland. then this is a good but maybe not great book. The author does a good job of showing you Disneys early life especially. but doesnt seem to like anything after Snow White. In fact. in the preface. the author states that "It is his animated films of the 1930s and early 1940s that make him uniquely interesting." I didnt know a lot about Walts life and I felt like this covered it pretty good. It was a little shallow on his family life. but he may have just been a private person. Detailed. but not very funBy Philip HutchisonThis book was an interesting read; it isnt a celebration of Disneys life so much as an attempt to counteract some of the blind reverence that has developed over the years. The author admits as much in the introduction and conclusion of the book (warning. the introduction is one of the driest parts of the book).There are plenty of details regarding the companys finances. such as which productions were financial successes or burdens. and some fascinating glimpses into motivations surrounding Disneys ever-evolving professional pursuits. including live action film. TV. and Disneyland. There is a strong narrative leading from one Disney project to the next. helping the reader understand the why behind every major project -- financial contraints. technical limitations. personality conflicts. etc. -- and how they impacted future projects. including staffing for each film.In general the book is not a feel-good biography of Disney. and does not contain nearly as many humorous stories as other Disney accounts Ive read. In fact. the author goes out of his way to show Disney as a bumbling-but-determined entrepreneur who succeeded despite a lack of artistic and financial ability. His strengths turned out to be persistence. enthusiasm. an intense focus on storytelling. and an uncanny ability to squeeze the best performance out of his staff. causing them to produce better work than they had thought possible.I was surprised to learn that Disney was not very successful financially. and reinvested most of the companys profits to pay for new projects or facilities. He frequently took out huge loans throughout his life to finance his latest ideas. and if it werent for his brother Roys business acumen. Walt Disney would have gone bankrupt before Snow White -- his first and biggest success -- was ever conceptualized.Not always a fun book. but definitely full of interesting nuggets. and a worthwhile read for any fan of Disney or the industry.
