The Art of Chalk: Techniques and Inspiration for Creating Art with Chalk

[ePub] The Art of Chalk: Techniques and Inspiration for Creating Art with Chalk by Tracy Lee Stum in Arts-Photography

Description

When designing; architects are responding to and creating a relationship between identity; culture and architectural style. This book discusses whether the extent of the use of glass facades has increased; or indeed enhanced; the creation of meaningful place-making; thereby creating a cultural identity of place. Looking at the development of perceptions of glass facades in different cultures; it shows how modernist glass buildings are perceived as an expression of technical achievement; as symbols of global economic success and as setting a neutral platform for multi-cultural societies - all of which are difficult for urban developers and policy makers to resist in our era of globalization. Drawing on a number of modern and heritage design projects from Europe; the USA; the Middle East and South East Asia; the book reviews efforts of some regional towns and local places to move up the economic ladder by adopting a more global aesthetic.

Not only samples of stunning and diverse works done in chalk. but also very thorough instructions on the how. if you want to try it yourself and excel as an artist. Everything from transferring a design to different techniques of using pastels. from designing a chalkboard to huge 3D street painting projects. Plenty of world renown artists are shown in this book. and that too is a great thing - not highlighting one single artists. good as he may be. The different styles. techniques. sizes and uses really make this book a chalk-bible. I think its a must-have book for artists and art lovers. and its especially interesting because its an ancient medium that is also used today and even taken to new horizons.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A lsquo;must haversquo; for any serious artistrsquo;s library...By Roberto QuintanaI have just enjoyed a comprehensive and fun read on the art and history of chalk and pastel drawing. Her all-inclusive text covers three major topics: designers. observers. and performers. She first discusses the design and layout of decorative elements. lettering. and signage for chalkboard artists. followed by an inspiring tour through the use of pastels for fine art portraits. landscapes and still lifes. She completes the picture with a discussion of the preparation of perspective grids. anamorphic grids. and transfer grids and cartoons. for the scaling-up and transferring of large-scale designs for street-art. murals. and lsquo;3Drsquo; (anamorphic) designs. Ms. Stum even covers lsquo;4Drsquo; images that incorporate digital technologies: virtual reality. projection mapping. and animation. The Art of Chalk is a tour de force of an ancient and often misunderstood expressive art-medium. with wonderful full-color photographs of a wide range of works by many very talented artists.
