After reading reviews and seeing such a high rating average I was expecting some useful tips and fresh takes on engagement photography. 1. I felt this book was a little . . . outdated. Half of the book was dedicated to the author showing us different themes she once had shot including leave it the beaver themes and vintage movie themes. . . elaborate set up themes are not the norm OR really even wanted these days (at least in my market) What customers are looking for these days are creative and intimate photos in a location that has sentimental value (favorite park. place they got engaged ect) 2. As a book titled "creative techniques" there should be more creative techniques and less technical aspects to engagement photography. I did not buy this book to review what iso is - and neither did anyone else who purchased this book. It just seemed to be there as filler pages.I guess I was looking for fresh creative ideas for creating moments (creating real laughter and emotions) and maybe that book just doesnt exist yet.I gave her 2 stars because I did enjoy her organizational methods for pre engagement session planning. Other than that I felt that the rest of the book was irrelevant to me as it may have been geared to someone thinking about starting an engagement photography business but has not gone through the steps.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Excellent book for artistic and business ideas and tips on engagement photography ...By zanypoetThis book is well laid out and easy to read and follow. It contains many ideas and tips pertaining to both artistic and business aspect of engagement photography that would be most helpful to those who are starting out or branching out to this type of photography. She touches on all the necessary elements without being bogged down in technical details or being dogmatic about her philosophy. The book allows you to explore your own artistic vision and refine your sense of style as a photographer. Even if you are not a pro or looking to be one. this book gives you invaluable tips and ideas that will help you become a better photographer. The business tips given are indispensible for getting started. even if it is often overlooked by individuals with artistic sensibilties who are more focused on the artistry than the business aspect of photography.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Must Read for PhotographersBy CameramanHaving already read Elizabeth Etiennes book "Profitable Wedding Photography" I had high expectations for her book "The Art of Engagement Photography." The book exceeded my expectations. Elizabeth is a world renown photographer for a reason. her work is AMAZING. She explains everything in great detail from how to have the couple feel relaxed and have fun during the shoot to lighting and what camera settings to use. The book covers both the technical aspects and the psychology needed to create images that will "wow" brides to be. The book is worth buying if nothing less than just studying her fantastic images and her explanation of how she captures this images in the camera. TWO THUMBS UP for the great book.Bruce Supanik
