A rare "guiding light" bookBy loyal customer BillI see that this book has not gotten a lot of attention from reviewers. but I like it so much that I bought it and want to join those others who have given this book a perfect rating. Irsquo;m not a piano teacher. and have only limited skill on the piano. When I saw this book. however. my first impression was that it is probably one of the best books ever for students. not just teachers. It is an old book. with 1981 and 2004 copyrights. I assume the 2004 copyright was simply for a reprint ndash; it certainly is true among too many readers that old ldquo;how tordquo; books are considered less relevant than those published yesterday. But. new books which frequently include beautiful. exciting production can be dumbed down in content. My belief is that this book oriented toward teachers has. for students. quality and sophistication far better than the average book oriented simply towards students. The book is chock full of written musical passages from some of the best music ever composed. This chapter topics are wonderful. It is certainly not for beginners. but anyone who is seriously wanting to play the piano. even a beginner. would greatly benefit from keeping this book at his or her side as an inspiration and as a guiding light. My guess is that for those who can read music passably. this book could also be enlightening to those simply attending performances. It is a bit on the pricey side. but definitely a keeper.6 of 6 people found the following review helpful.
