An estimated four hundred gold records have been recorded in the Muscle Shoals area. Many of those are thanks to Muscle Shoals Sound Studio and the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section; dubbed "the Swampers." Some of the greatest names in rock; RB and blues laid tracks in the original; iconic concrete-block building--the likes of Cher; Lynyrd Skynyrd; the Rolling Stones and the Black Keys. The National Register of Historic Places now recognizes that building; where Lynyrd Skynyrd recorded the original version of "Free Bird" and the Rolling Stones wrote "Brown Sugar" and "Wild Horses." Good Fundamentals....OutdatedBy Robi RattMitch is probably one of the foremost gurus of recording and instruments.....Id LOVE to get his.complete Sweetwater recording system on DVD......This book is ideal; if your just starting out; know absolutely nothing abobut what a signal is or the Analog to Digital conversion and its reciprocal....Basically the First book needed to explain the Complete BASICS of how a signal is created and processed......but its WAY out of date as far as equipment and Software....which has also changed the way things are done today....But.....a test......Do You Know what a Sine Wave is...period.....if you answer is "what do my sinuses have to do with it"......Then Buy it; read and re-read each section till you understand it.....Then check out the "Sound on Sound" website to learn tons more......"Tape-OP" is another; and the print magazine is free.....Plus theres tons of Home Recording websites which will modernize things for you....assuming your interested in just Home Recording.....Otherwise; the book may help you decide if its a career for you.....in which case.....start looking online for Pro Recording Schools....theres even decent online courses.....but you wont have the Big Boy Toys to practice and learn on....Good Luck!!4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Mitch knows his business and also how to teach. He includes all necessary technical terms but explains them through simple analogy. Its almost like having a personal tutor there to help you. He anticipates and provides soulutiions for common problems that may; and probably will; arise. Id highly recommend buying a copy to anyone confused by the ANY key concepts in recording or home music production. This is a MUST have. I work for a public school system; and this book would also make an excellent text for any teachers interested in adding recording/MIDI to their curriculum.BUY IT!
