What a disappointment to find so many mistakes. (i.e. no matter what; you can not get to the ocean from Fairhaven. Its still the bay. Gary Ridway didnt work in Bellingham. That was; I believe; Kent.) So much was omitted (where various pictures were taken; for instance; and whats there now) from our rich history. The other thing I noticed. There is way too much Fairhaven in a book on Bellingham. It is all Bellingham. In view of the two towns; when there were two towns; it would have been nice to have a section for each. Rather than all jumbled together. I found other mistakes; which without hauling the book out and going through it all again; I cant list. Just makes me wonder which facts are real. If I didnt know my history; I would have believed that all was accurate. It is not.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Couldve been much better researched much more comprehensive; but generally entertaining (Although Galen Biery this guy aint)By Dave from the StatesThe review by Mona pretty much nailed it; although I am being generous giving the book four stars... because I do like it as far as it goes. But I would have loved it if not for the many errors; omissions (e.g. Cement Plant pier; Bellingham Airport history) lack of directional/landmark perspective for all too many of the photos; many of which make me believe that Jentges has not lived in Bellingham for all that long- or was at very least a transplant. A few examples:(1) Pages 52/53-> The author tells us the name changed from WWCE to WWU; which is just plain WRONG. He somehow had no clue about the years WWU was Western Washington State College (between WWCE WWU)(2) Page 102-> Image taken from Railroad looking east down State toward Holy?!? State RR are parallel; with Holly a perpendicular to them; so it would be mighty difficult to take a shot as described. Plus the directions themselves are questionable.(3) Page 114-> Not a word about Swans Moving and Storage; which was in the building for years. This is another item which tells me the author is not a long-time Bellingham resident?(4) Page 119-> Is Wardner Castle not also (more commonly) known locally as Hilltop House?Bottom line: Dont expect too much; and the book should be pretty entertaining; but it could should have been so much more- and double check any facts in it!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. An enjoyable read; disappointing condition.By CustomerThe books content itself is lovely; I took one star off because of the condition. This was purchased as a gift and both the top and bottom corners were bent.
