THE history; the features; and the most famous examples of European architecture; during a period extending from the rise of the Gothic; or pointed; style in the twelfth century to the general depression which overtook the Renaissance style at the close of the eighteenth; form the subject of this little volume. I have endeavoured to adopt as free and simple a mode of treatment as is compatible with the accurate statement of at least the outlines of so very technical a subject.Though it is to be hoped that many professional students of architecture will find this hand-book serviceable to them in their elementary studies; it has been my principal endeavour to adapt it to the requirements of those who are preparing for the professional pursuit of the sister arts; and of that large and happily increasing number of students who pursue the fine arts as a necessary part of a complete liberal education; and who know that a solid and comprehensive acquaintance with art; especially if joined to some skill in the use of the pencil; the brush; the modelling tool; or the etching needle; will open sources of pleasure and interest of the most refined description.

Just When You Think .....By Eden.MJust when you think Tim Weaver has written the best book he possibly can. you go and buy his next book. sit down to read it. and discover this one ... This book is amazing on so many different levels. it has so many different character developments and tangents of the story criss crossing each other. that you can barely wait to turn the next page. Everything in this book works tremendously well. you feel for the people your reading about. and they dont just come alive on the page. they jump out. grab you by the throat and drag you along for the ride. If you have read his prior books or not. it doesnt matter. this is primarily a standalone dramatic PI thriller that you just have to read. so stop reading what Im typing and go and buy the darn book ! It will be your best read of 2016 ! Thank you Mr Weaver for yet another wonderful book that I hated turning the final page on.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Another great novel from Tim WeaverBy Jane SantosAnother great novel from Tim Weaver. I love the way the plot develops from seemingly no clues. He clearly researches his subject thoroughly. At the end I wasnt totally convinced it was fiction after all. Only small downside is the violence that always seems to catch Raker unaware. I have now read all of his books and eagerly look forward to his next.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. ... can really tell a story and he does not disappoint!!
