Gorgeous - colors much better than photoBy Henry LahoreToo bad that the color reproduction in the photo you see here (and also in the "Look Inside") is quite inaccurate; not doing justice to the wonderful depth and lush; vibrant colors in the actual book. Scoullers work is very inspirational; but be warned: as he himself says; this is a "how I did it" book rather than a "how to do it" book. He does tell you which materials and colors he used in the paintings and sketches throughout the book; and his considerations in approaching the work. He includes several demonstration paintings to show his basic process (this varies from painting to painting); but there are not detailed steps. His chapters are entitled "Introduction;" "Tools and Materials;" "Methods and Techniques;" "Sketchbooks;" "Painting Outdoors;" "Colour and Light;" "7 Favorite Themes" (these include boats and boatyards; still life; landscape and urban landscape; windows; figures; animals; farms and villages); and "Working in the Studio" (still life and portraits). A wonderful book to appreciate his color sense and style; but not for the artist who may need more instruction.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
