I am a mother of three kids who love to learnBy AmandaI was given the opportunity to review the book Swamps Ponds Animal Life: 2nd Grade Geography Workbook Series: Second Grade books. Here is my review for this book: I am a mother of three kids who love to learn. I am always so very excited to find a new book with some information that I think that they might love. Right from the cover I knew this was going to be a good workbook for them. My two boys love alligators; and frogs. Learning all about them and their habit; I knew was going to be a lot of fun. We have recently been reading a lot of books written by Baby Professor. The only complaint I have is that I think that some of her vocabulary is to advance for kids. As for this being a workbook it is not. Really it is more of a book than a workbook. I was expecting to have questions or even little activities for us to do but sadly there was not. We still really did love this book; but I think calling it a workbook is very misleading. The book is eighteen pages and really is an introduction to a few animals that call swamps and ponds there home. The illustrations are great but some are missing some information about them. It would have been nice to see some information that went with all of the pictures. I will say the pictures are really captivating. Itrsquo;s a great way to catch the readerrsquo;s attention itrsquo;s a shame that not all pictures have information on them. I think that it would have added to the pictures. On a positive note my children all stayed very interested in the book they were able to learn the key points the books present and are able to retain the information. The book is very educational; and had some very interesting facts. Overall I would highly recommend this book; but I only gave it 3 stars as the book claims to be a workbook and it is definitely not one. There are about 200 books in this ebook series that are offered in the kindle store for either free or for .99cent;. You cant really go wrong with the books offered for free. There is a variety of subjects covered and most of the books follow about the same format. You can take a peek inside the books by clicking "Look Inside" and this is pretty much what you get in each book.I gave this ebook only 4 stars because it just seemed so short. It seems the format for this book and most of the Baby Professor books have a picture with a paragraph and facts on the page. Then the next page is just a photo. It would be nice if they had another paragraph on that page as well. But again; since many are free its hard to complain. This book especially seemed to be lacking because the pictures were almost repetitive. But overall; I do love the photos but it would be nice if the books went into more detail but they are very basic books that I hope will get my kids interested in finding more about each subject.I plan on keeping these books on my iPad for down time for my kids when they get bored waiting different places like the doctors office or practice for a sibling. I have received a couple other books by the same maker that I was super impressed with and absolutely loved. Unfortunately I can not put this book on the same level. Here are my thoughts after reading through the book.Pros: There are bight beautiful photos throughout the whole book. You receive a couple of facts about each animal/bug Short enough and bright enough to keep a small childs attention Good for reading ages 6-9Cons: There are only 7 different animals or bugs covered in the book. There is a page with a photo and then a small description and then when you turn the page of the book; there is a full photo of that animal on the next two pages. So you get nice beautiful photos but unfortunately only on 7 different animals. You really do not learn very much about each animal or how that animal impacts the swamp and pond life.I received this book for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion. I only gave this book a three out of five stars for a couple of reasons. First; I was very disappointed to only have seven animals/bugs covered in the book. Based off of their other books I expected this to still work for a older elementary child and I feel like that is really a stretch. But it was not all bad because the photos are bright and beautiful and fun to look at. My little ones will enjoy look at the photos.
