[audiobook] The Curse of Beauty: The Scandalous Tragic Life of Audrey Munson; America's First Supermodel by James Bone at Arts-Photography

Description

Surrounding the West Fork River and its tributaries; the communities in northern Harrison County are rich in both history and pride. With an abundance of natural resources; such as coal and oil; the areas featured in Around Shinnston developed into industries that brought growth and commerce. Many of these towns were named for the coal companies that established mines there; including Gypsy and Owings. Viropa was named for Virginia; Ohio; and Pennsylvania; while Wyatt; previously called Goosetown; was renamed to honor a local physician. Big Elm once carried the roots of the largest water elm tree on record; and Enterprise was a large Indian territory. Shinnston is the largest community in Clay District (third largest in Harrison County) and is home to the oldest structure in this part of the state. These areas were the ldquo;heart of the Bituminous Coal Fieldsrdquo; and today take pride in their history.

Hitchcock"The Curse of Beauty" is. perhaps. the best written and best researched biography I have ever read. Its so amazing that Audrey Munson has not been much better remembered. Mr. Bones book makes Ms Munson a person that comes to life in the pages of this book. Youll never find a better example of a memory living through literature. How compelling is this book ? I found it compelling enough to actually seek out. and visit her final resting place. I found it exactly as it is depicted in the book. She was a most amazing celebrity of her era. Through a brief conversation with a local historian. I learned that a better ( and corrected ) grave marker and road-side historical marker are due to be dedicated on June 8. 2016. That would mark the anniversary her 125th birthday. Personally. I will return on that date to pay respects. This book is truly a powerful testimony to a celebrated but tortured soul48 of 49 people found the following review helpful.
