People who know a lot about child development say that a childs mind is very stimulated by pictures. That is why every child should possess at least one good picture book. Picture books of any given animal life is always a good option for imagination-building purposes. Pictures of spiders in particular almost defy it. There is such a vast variety of the many legged little monsters. Almost alien-like; an image of the creature can stay with a youngster for years and years.

A Breath of fresh airBy Stuart MurdochLiz Wells book about landscape is a breath of fresh air; in this day and age of photographic image saturation; she clearly articulates the imprudent belief of the photograph in western culture.Beginning with painting and early representation of the land from socio-political perspectives she argues that a photograph of the landscape isnt all that it appears; it is often a greater sum of its parts and is an important part of western art and culture.A great read; especially if like me you are out and about making pictures of the land around; as land does indeed matter.
