A heart-warming nostalgia memoir from a member of the world famous dance troupe; The Tiller Girls. Based in London in the 1930s; 40s and 50s; Irenersquo;s story will transport readers back to a more innocent; simple way of life. This is the story of a little girl who loved to dance. Growing up in London in the 1930s; dancing was so much more to Irene than just a hobby. It was her escape and it took her off into another world away from the harsh realities of life. A fairytale world away from the horrors of WW2; from the grief of losing her father and missing her mother who she didnrsquo;t see for three years while she was drafted to help with the war effort. And far away from her cold-hearted grandparents who treated her like an inconvenience. Finally it led to her winning a place as a Tiller Girl; the worldrsquo;s most famous dance troupe known for their 32-and-a-half high kicks a minute and precise; symmetrical routines. For four years she opened and closed the show at the prestigious London Palladium and performed on stage alongside huge stars such as Frank Sinatra; Nat King Cole and Judy Garland. It was a strange mixture of glamour and bloody hard work but it was certainly never dull. And being a Tiller Girl also gave Irene the opportunity to see firsthand the devastating effects of WW2; both here and abroad.Heart-warming; enlightening and wonderfully uplifting; Irenersquo;s evocative story will transport readers back to a time when every town and holiday resort had several theatres and when dance troupes like The Tiller Girls were the epitome of glitz and glamour.

Excellent; No-nonsense; JAM-PACKED with info!!By Mike PhillipsI must say I was pleasantly BLOWN AWAY with the massive amount of information in this little gem! This book deserves the full 5 star rating it is getting; and then some! It has info on every aspect of the biz; from how to act; to getting photos; to agents; business manager; money management; wardrobes; casting directors...plus there are dozens of interviews and inside scoops on everything. For example; in the section on casting directors; she brings in 2 or 3 casting directors into the book; with their comments and suggestions--its like getting the benefit of actually interviewing these folks!! And there are dozens of experts she quotes throughout the book; along with her own considerable expertise as well. Not to mention; at the end of every section is a list of resources: who to call; how much to expect to pay; why she recommends them...This is really 3-4 books in one at over 600 pages. In fact; the ONLY negative about this book is how darn HEAVY it is! Its hard to hold it for long periods of time (Judy; an audio version? Hint hint!)I cant say enough about how fabulous this book is; a REAL eye-opener. My respect for actors and what they go through has jumped immensely; and I have a much better handle on what its going to take to create a successful career for myself. Thank-you Judy!!!!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Excellent resource!By Jeff L.This was the first book I bought upon arriving in LA to chase the dream; and I am very thankful for the wealth of information included in this Hollywood "bible"! As a matter of fact; I wish Id read it way before I got here; as I wouldve been much better prepared for the business that is this show business. I highly recommend it to anyone whos ever dreamt of making it in Hollywood; especially for those who are planning on moving here. So many budding actors come having no idea what to do once they get here; and especially of the expense involved in establishing yourself; finding representation; networking; and taking various classes; workshops; and seminars to boost your resume and get your name out there. This can be a tough town; and its easy to feel overwhelmed at times; but any and all planning you can do in advance to allow you to be smarter and more strategic about your career is absolutely beneficial; and I feel this book is without a doubt a great first step in what will hopefully be an exciting and fulfilling journey. Thanks so much Judy!!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
