Martin McDonagh is one of the worlds most popular dramatists. This is a highly readable and illuminating analysis of his career to date that will appeal to the legions of fans of his stage plays and the films Six Shooter and In Bruges. As a resource for students and practitioners it is unrivalled; providing an authoritative and enquiring approach to his work that moves beyond the tired discussions of national identity to offer a comprehensive critical exploration. Patrick Lonergan provides a detailed analysis of each of his plays and films; their original staging; critical reception; and the connections within and between the Leenane Trilogy; the Aran Islands plays and more recent work. It includes an interview with Garry Hynes; artistic director of Druid Theatre Company; and offers four critical essays on key features of McDonaghs work by leading international scholars: Joan Dean; Eamonn Jordan; Jose Lanters and Karen OBrien. A series of further resources including a chronology; glossary; notes on McDonaghs use of language and a list of further reading makes this the perfect companion to one of the most exciting dramatists writing today.

The first computers were abacus; used to count. The first contemporary computers were the size of the room and consumed lots of energy. The first personal; programmable computers; as we know them today; exist only since 1980.Thats all. Nothing else in the book. Nothing! Few pictures illustrating this "smart" publication arent even labeled or described. How this "masterpiece" can educate a fifth grader is beyond me. Fifth grader is a youngster of ten or eleven. Most of them at that age are already reluctant to learn. The inborn curiosity and need to know; already gave way to the need to pretend; they dont care about learning. (If your kid still hungers learning; count your blessings). But they arent stupid. They want to know; and they want you to tell them. You just have to be careful how you do it. Plus; in the era of the smartphones; they already know a lot about computers. They want to be hackers; they want to design their own computer games; they want to know all; preferably within next five minutes. They need to be told everything in the right order; right speed and right way. This book is a joke. The only reason I didnt give it a one star review is; that the book doesnt contain false information. Just none.Run away from this publication. It is a waste of your money and a waste of the willingness your fifth grader wishes to expend on this topic. Since youre building their future; you need to chose carefully what you give them to read. This title isnt it.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Basic ebook that really should go into more detail; but its free so itll be great to show my kids.By ElizabethAnother Baby Professor book with some cool pictures. There are about 200 books in this ebook series that are offered in the kindle store for either free or for .99cent;. You cant really go wrong with the books offered for free. There is a variety of subjects covered and most of the books follow about the same format. You can take a peek inside the books by clicking "Look Inside" and this is pretty much what you get in each book. This particular book is ok. The format for this book is the same as most of the Baby Professor books in this series which have a picture with a paragraph and facts on one page. Then the next page is just a photo. It would be nice if they had another paragraph on that page too. I mean its great they have a picture of an abacus and talk about it. But then the next page is just a picture of another abacus. It would be very simple to talk about how one is used by sliding the beads.Anyway; overall; I do like theses books for their wonderful pictures. It would be nice if the books went into more detail but they are very basic books that I hope will get my kids interested in finding more about each subject. It will be pretty neat for my kids to be able to see the progression of the computer and how a computer used to take up entire rooms!I plan on keeping these books on my iPad for down time for my kids when they get bored waiting different places like the doctors office or practice for a sibling. I sometimes watch a friends 3 year old daughter and she likes to look through the pictures on my phone. I plan on showing her these books to keep her entertained. I think she will love them.***** I received this ebook for free for my honest review. *****1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
