AustinAfter typing my great grandmothers madian name into the internet. what a shock it was to click on a link and have my great great grandfathers picture pop up onto the screen. After scrolling through several pages. his story about being one of the early settlers of Vaughn Washington was written in this book. Since my mother had already done a genological search on her grandfather. I was interested in reading about what information the author had to say about him. By the way. my great greatfather was Alfred VanSlyke and his daughter Nellie. my great grandmother also had her picture and background information of her life mentioned in this book. I always enjoyed going out to Vaughn to visit her and pick apples from her small orchard and playing on the beach. Our family. grandparents. uncles and great aunts and uncles always went to Vaughn to have a combined celebration of my folks anniversary and Nellies birthday. I was so impressed with the book. that I ordered 2 more. one for my sister and my nephew. Submitted by: Marilee Austin (Olympia. Washington)0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A little treasure of a bookBy kim schaumburgColleen Slater has done her homework in compiling a historical account of the settlement and growth of a small but beautiful peninsula on Puget Sound in Washington State. This attractive book is an amalgamation of rare historical photographs and concise. informative narrative. A must read for both Pacific Northwest residents and history buffs.
