[DOC] The League of Regrettable Superheroes: Half-Baked Heroes from Comic Book History by Jon Morris at Arts-Photography

Description

In My Fathers House; the political philosopher Thomas Dumm explores a series of stark and melancholy paintings by the American artist Will Barnet. Responding to the physical and mental decline of his sister Eva; who lived alone in the family home in Beverly; Massachusetts; Barnet began work in 1990 on what became a series of nine paintings depicting Eva and other family members; as they once were and as they figured in the artists memory. Rendered in Barnets signature quiet; abstract style; the paintings; each featured in full color; present the ordinary and extraordinary aspects of a twentieth-century American family. Dumm first became acquainted with Barnet and his paintings in 2008. Given his scholarly focus on the lives of ordinary people; he was immediately attracted to the artists work. When they met; Dumm and Barnet began a friendship and dialogue that lasted until the painters death in 2012; at the age of 101. This book reflects the many discussions the two had concerning the series of paintings; Barnets family; his early life in Beverly; and his eighty-year career as a prominent New York artist. Reading the almost gothic paintings in conversation with the writers and thinkers key to both his and Barnets thinkingmdash;Emerson; Spinoza; Dickinson; Benjamin; Cavell; Nietzsche; Melvillemdash;Dumms haunting meditations evoke broader reflections on family; mortality; the uncanny; and the loss that comes with remembrance.

Im not a very good guitar player at all but I just love the blues. This book and CD have taught me a fair amount of theory; along with some really cool licks and chords that are a staple in playing blues music. And I am only on page 27! Being able to not only hear a professional play the bit you are learning; but watch HOW he plays it in the video is a huge help in learning a new lick or phrase that eventually leads to a full 12 bar blues with a little turnaround. I highly suggest having some way to record yourself and play it back. That way you can record a simple 12 bar rhythm using the various dominant and diminished 7th chords you learn early on; then play it back while you play licks and interval techniques to play on top of the recording. This helped me tremendously to get my timing right when playing with other instruments. I use a simple looper pedal hooked in between my guitar and amplifier to do the recording and playback and it works great!0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. great book!By henrique hansenits one of the best and most compreensibles blues methods for sale.
