Gail Wilson-Giarratanos tribute to Drink SmallBy Uncle GeneGail Wilson-Giarratano; PhD; is a perfectly lovely person; as well as a writer with exquisite attention to detail. The book; "Drink Small:: The Life Music of South Carolinas Blues Doctor"; is an example of how biographies should be written. Gail describes Drink Small through his life and times; successes and struggles; beginning in small-town; rural SC; all the way to the present day (2014). The extraordinary details and listings of the various bands and musicians with which Drink played; is truly a "whose-who" of gospel and blues of Drinks generation. Many of Drinks contemporaries are quite well known (others; not so much); but either way his influence has been broad and enduring. Of particular interest; included in this book; is a complete discography and the lyrics to many of Drinks songs. (That information alone is worth the price of admission for ANY body remotely interested in Drink Smalls music.) Drink has THE best southern blues voice in America. His lyrics are laced with his home-spun philosophy; sometimes gritty; sometimes risque; almost always humorous; AND with a good dose of morality thrown-in for good measure. This book is a treasure-trough and is highly recommended for those interested in the history of the American blues scene and/or true southern musicians in general.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Drink Small - Big PersonalityBy P_J_PI am reading this book now and enjoying it very much. Unfortunately; I had never heard or Drink Small (yes...his real name) until I found this book in the Kindle section. It is well written and researched. Small sounds like quite a personality and a very likeable person who is dedicated to his music; but was also very dedicated to his mother; staying close to her in her time of need; as opposed to chasing his dream in the big city. I look forward to hearing his body of work.
