The Ludic City: Exploring the Potential of Public Spaces

[ePub] The Ludic City: Exploring the Potential of Public Spaces by Quentin Stevens at Arts-Photography

Description

In her critically acclaimed; ingenious memoir; Sarah Messer explores America’s fascination with history; family; and Great Houses. Her Massachusetts childhood home had sheltered the Hatch family for 325 years when her parents bought it in 1965. The will of the house’s original owner; Walter Hatch—which stipulated Red House was to be passed down; "never to be sold or mortgaged from my children and grandchildren forever"—still hung in the living room. In Red House; Messer explores the strange and enriching consequences of growing up with another family’s birthright. Answering the riddle of when shelter becomes first a home and then an identity; Messer has created a classic exploration of heritage; community; and the role architecture plays in our national identity.

I have learned from some cousins how life was like when they lived on Taylor Street alsoBy NettyThis book is interesting and I have learned from some cousins how life was like when they lived on Taylor Street also. He said everyone knew everyone and he and his friends were able to stay out past midnight at times and it was safe. Its sad that Taylor Street is no longer the same because based on the stories my cousins said and what I have read in this book; times were great when Taylor Street was more than where Italian business thrived as it is now only; since the Medical District was built and all the houses were torn down; since the first RIchard Daley who was mayor of Chicago back then; decided to tear down all the homes; including the home my great grandparents owned where many relatives were born in including my own father. Neighborhoods now a days dont come close to what Taylor Street use to be.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Three StarsBy Jeffery A.
