A treasure chest~By victoriouswarrior78For anyone with a Fort Dodge background; this book can be likened to a treasure chest of finds. It proved itself beyond its worth today when discovering information Id long been seeking. While thumbing through the book; I saw "Early Music House" in bold letters on the side of a downtown brick building (p. 23). Talk about a delightful surprise!!!Why the quest? A few years ago; one of our daughters (a recent UNO/Omaha graduate with a degree in music) acquired an old upright piano which has; on the face thereof; an imprint: "The Czerny ... MFD for the EARLY MUSIC HOUSE; Fort Dodge; Iowa". As a former Dodger; I searched online with interest for info regarding the music house; but could find nothing to speak of until today. Thanks to author Roger Natte; this book answered our quest; in part anyway; about the location of the pianos beginnings in our hometown. And; interesting enough (to us anyway); Czerny; as we call her; has joined our household to live out "our golden years" in Omaha (where she was found). Upon our recent purchase of a home; our daughter insisted that Czerny be moved from her place to ours; our home is located in Omahas historical district. "Czerny belongs here"; she said. Sure enough; Czerny now beautifully sits in our living room; and we have the added pleasure of "live music" when our daughter visits. Beshert. It was meant to be.When considering the composer Karl King "back in the day"; wed like to imagine that he and "our Czerny" encountered one another at Early Music House ... a nice thought anyway. Either way; Im thankful for Roger Natte taking on the task to publish this excellent book; a quality publication--well written and displayed. Without it; Id still be wondering the whereabouts of Czernys early beginnings.Last; but not least; I recommend this book; as a former Dodger; to anyone desiring to "walk down memory lane". Its filled with treasures of yesteryear. Give it a try. Enjoy!
