The Musician's Guide to Recording Vocals

[ePub] The Musician's Guide to Recording Vocals by Dallan Beck in Arts-Photography

Description

This book opens a neglected chapter in the reception of Athenian drama; especially comedy; and gives center stage to a particularly attractive and entertaining series of vase-paintings which have generally been regarded as marginal curiosities. These are the so-called "phylax vases;" nearly all painted in Greek cities of South Italy in the period 400 to 360 B.C. Until now; they have been taken to reflect a sort of local folk-theater; but Taplin argues that most; if not all; reflect Athenian comedy of the sort represented by Aristophanes. His bold thesis brings up questions about the relation of tragedy as well as comedy to vase painting; the cultural climate of the Greek cities in Italy; and the extent to which Athenians were aware of drama as a potential "export." It also enriches appreciation of many key aspects of Aristophanic comedy. The book has assembled 46 photographs of vase-paintings; many printed here for the first time outside specialist publications not readily accessible.

Closet book to help with true recording of vocalsBy Bigangbo Bonannothis is the closest book I have that got me the closet on correct levels and compression on recording vocals. However again I am stuck not knowing completely how to achieve what I am satisfied with with my own equipment because all these books generalize too much. I will say there is good information though and it did help me somewhat so I say buy this if you are new to recording vocals it will help at least guide you somewhat. Just do not expect help with your own equipment....0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. O good book for guide!!By epguitarOne of the things I liked this book was the cd with the tracks inside. it s very nice to hear the examples in practice. but I think it would be great if the book brings more information about effects and equalizing tips for vocals5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. A plus: audio CD uses different microphonesBy D. RosarioPerhaps the best thing I learned from this book is an invaluable lesson: get good microphones. Before I had this book. I did not own a Neumann mic. but after listening to the audio examples. it became apparent that it would greatly improve my recordings. and it did! He also uses the ubiquitous Avalon compressor/channel strip. which is practically standard issue.Although many people use software compressors. he clearly demonstrates how to effectively use side-chaining with outboard. dedicated compressors.Without the CD. this book would be of no value. but the audio examples definitely make it worth every penny.
