[PDF] The North End: A Brief History of Boston's Oldest Neighborhood by Alex R. Goldfeld in Arts-Photography

Description

Beginning as a military fort on the banks of the Ohio River; Steubenville powered into the twentieth century with steam and steel. Fierce battles; raging fires and tragedy on the river could not deter this indefatigable community; and it emerged as an industrial and cultural beacon for the Ohio Valley. With warmth and humor; Dr. John R. Holmes chronicles the fascinating history and the colorful characters of Steubenville. Brimming with tales of lavish theatres; local brews; famous crooners; and personalities such as spunky Mother Beatty and legendary steamboat captain George ONeil; this collection of vignettes offers a glimpse into a vibrant city and its proud people.

Butler got a hard rap from most reviewers back in 2002. Those reviews took place maybe as much as 10 to 16 years ago. I am almost finished with the book and I am pleased with the arrangement of the telling of Barry Manilows life and achievements and his music history. I knew nothing about him before and now I feel I understand this kind; fragile; aggressive businessman who could write and arrange the most beautiful music. His presence at the piano and his showmanship that formed a glorious entertaining format is all explained by Ms. Butler. She did a great job in defining the steps it took to get Barry to the top. His beginning is so humble and one of things I discovered about this highly intelligent man was that he exuded a kindness that was also inherent in his beloved grandfather. Now; I wonder where he is today. Music has changed and practically disappeared from this generation but; my generation thrived on his beautiful songs. I had no idea what it took to put together a musical production but it was fascinating. I am glad that Patricia Butler wrote this biography of Manilow--it is a very good read!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good Biography Of Barry Manilow !By CustomerBarry Manilow : The Biography by Patricia Butler was released in 2001. This has great photographs of Barry over many years. As his fan I question some things the author writes about him. She does quote a lot from many sources. Fans of Barry Manilow will like this the most.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
