[PDF] The Partnership: Brecht; Weill; Three Women; and Germany on the Brink by Pamela Katz in Arts-Photography

Description

The Theatre of Caryl Churchill documents and analyses the major plays and productions of one of Britains greatest and most innovative playwrights. Drawing on hundreds of never-before-seen archival sources from the US and the UK; it provides an essential guide to Churchills groundbreaking work for students and theatregoers. Each chapter illuminates connections across plays and explores major scripts alongside unpublished and unfinished projects. Each considers the rehearsal room; the stage; and the printed text. Each demonstrates how Churchill has pushed the boundaries of dramatic aesthetics while posing urgent political and theoretical questions. But since each maps Churchills work in a different way; each deploys a different reading practice - for many approaches are necessary to characterise such a restlessly imaginative and prolific career. Through its five interlocking parts; The Theatre of Caryl Churchill tells a story about the playwright; her work; and its place in contemporary drama.

Better use: as a songwrting and production learning toolBy Paul BiondiAlthough not marketed as such; "Inside the Hits "makes a good resource tool for teachers and students who wish to analyze the song structure and production values of hit records. When I help my guitar students with their songwriting; I include deconstructing a hit song. After all; why reinvent the wheel when the information from a hit song is right there for us to use? The author does an excellent job of outlining key areas of songwriting and production and writes extensively about the elements of the groove; the arrangement; signature elements of a song; melodic development; the chord/harmonic progression; effects and techniques used in the mix; a guide of how the song was mixed (mix map); lyrical structure; cultural relevance; performance values and interviews with the artists; songwriters and producers. I give this book 4 stars instead of 5 only because the selected songs stop at 1988 and do not include more current writing and production trends. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in deconstructing hit songs for songwriting and production ideas.
