The Perfect Screenplay: Writing It and Selling It

[DOC] The Perfect Screenplay: Writing It and Selling It by Katherine Herbert at Arts-Photography

Description

Since its installation at and subsequent removal from New York Citys Federal Plaza; noted sculptor Richard Serras Tilted Arc has been a touchstone for debates over the role of public art. Installed in 1981; the 10-foot-high; 120-foot-long curved wall of Cor-Ten self-rusting steel instantly became a magnet for criticism. Art critics in the New York Times and the Village Voice labeled it the citys worst public sculpture; and many denounced it as an example of the elitism associated with art and as an obstacle to the use and enjoyment of the plaza. Harriet F. Senie explores the history of Tilted Arc; including its 1979 commission and the heated public hearings that eventually led to its removal in 1989 (it was dismantled and is currently stored in a government warehouse in Maryland). Analyzing the archive of popular opinion; Senie shows how the sculpture was caught in an avalanche of shifting local and national discussions about public funding for the arts. She examines the tactics of those opposed to the sculpture and the medias superficial and sensational coverage of the controversy; reframing the dialogue in terms of public art; public space; and public policy instead of the question of whether the removal of Tilted Arc was poetic justice or a dangerous precedent. Senie provides an enlightening history and analysis of a controversy that will continue to inform our discussions about public art for years to come.Harriet F. Senie is director of museum studies and professor of art history at the City University of New Yorks City College and professor of art history at CUNYs Graduate Center.

Buy this immediately!By Olaf WeyerEDIT: I have removed one star. because in later chapters i feel now. the book is rather lackluster and doesnt stand out so much from like Syd Fields The Screenwriters Workbook. Thats quiet okay. its still important stuff if you havent read about structure and so on yet. if you have. you might feel a bit bored. Still. The first chapters are so brilliantly honest. true and thought provoking i still highly recommend getting this. THOSE deserve five stars for sure.----I fell in love with this guide instantly for its candid. no-nonsense language and fast paced rapid fire sentences. Books on screenwriting usually always have some kind of filler material - or should i say "bullsh*tting" thrown inbetween. not this one. Like any screenwriting book it teaches you screenwriting (surprise!). But first it will be setting your head straight. If you dont have the mindset of a professional. reading this book will actually do that to you. the language here is that powerful. Some manuals talking about being a professional feel like they need to convince you. this doesnt. Some authors appear arrogant when trying to set your head straight. this here is your buddy.Somehow i feel this is a strange review because i dont speak about how the author handles showing you the craft of screenwriting. the how-to. Well. you can pick up any how-to book on the matter. they are all pretty much the same really only a few really good ones. Thing is. they arent really convincing. if you are critical. they always leave you with a nagging "but" on ths or that matter. Not this one. You know you want to know for yourself. so do yourself a favor and get the sample ebook. There is no question you will hit the buy bottom after youve been intodruced to this great material.Other books i recommend:The Starter Screenplay (making you aware of the "Fringe Industry" the one that lures you into believing it is Hollywood while it is not at all - Screenwriting Contests/Gurus. anyone?)http://www..com/The-Starter-Screenplay-Screenwriting-ebook/dp/B0077DYOJG/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-textie=UTF8qid=1356000456sr=1-1keywords=The+Starter+ScreenplayThe Truth About Writinghttp://www..com/The-Truth-about-Writing-ebook/dp/B004SPER2K/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-textie=UTF8qid=1356000402sr=1-1keywords=the+truth+about+writing("The Perfect Screenplay" can be viewed as a Merger of the three above without of course borrowing from them; it is a STANDOUT book like that. almost(!) making them obsolete)Script: A Writers Guide to the Hollywood Junglehttp://www..com/SCRIPT-WRITERS-HOLLYWOOD-JUNGLE-ebook/dp/B0042X99DU/ref=sr_1_3?s=digital-textie=UTF8qid=1356000779sr=1-3keywords=The+Hollywood+JungleBill Idelons Writing Classhttp://www..com/BILL-IDELSONS-WRITING-CLASS-ebook/dp/B005LKMG4C/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-textie=UTF8qid=1356000865sr=1-1keywords=Bill+IdelsonThe Art Of Plottinghttp://www..com/The-Art-Plotting-Screenplay-ebook/dp/B003FCVG6W/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-textie=UTF8qid=1356000956sr=1-1keywords=The+Art+Of+PlottingScreenwriting From the Hearthttp://www..com/Screenwriting-From-Heart-James-Ryan/dp/0823084191/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=apsie=UTF8qid=1356000996sr=1-1-catcorrkeywords=Screenwriting+From+The+HeartThe Coffee Break Screenwriterhttp://www..com/Coffee-Break-Screenwriter-Writing-ebook/dp/B00564VY8C/ref=sr_1_1_title_1_kin?s=booksie=UTF8qid=1356001036sr=1-1keywords=The+Coffeebreak+ScreenwriterAnd last but not least anything by this guy. published or upcomingWilliam C. Martellhttp://www..com/William-C.-Martell/e/B005TZ0HJA/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_pop_1I talked about the fringe industry above associated with the big big names of screenwriting coaches. There is a reason they are not on the the list here. However there is a reason that "The Perfect Screenplay" is now at the very top. Funny. Just when you thought you couldnt be surprised anymore :)My issues are only with . 5 stars does not do this great book justice ...(Sorry for typos and mispellings)0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Some good infoBy MarySome great info but a lot of info on life in LA and making contacts. I know this is important. but I really expected more content about writing and polishing.
