I even listened to it on my Kindle while I jotted down notes for my trip. I like a book that tells you when the best time is to be at a certain spot for the best shot and what settings work best. I also like the inside opinions of the authors experience with this area and what is good to experience or avoid! It will help me out greatly for my trip to San Francisco!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I am an amateur photographer living near San Fransisco and have shot extensively in the area and bought the book to find out about new location. Unfortunately. not only were the pictures mediocre but there are so many better locations that the author fails to mention that I am a little surprised.1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Disappointing - look elsewhereBy Dr. ZAs an avid amateur photographer and San Francisco resident. I cant say I gleaned a whole lot of useful information from this book. and it doesnt even have very good photographs. This is especially surprising because Mr. Foster appears to have solid credentials as a photographerAs one of the other reviewers has commented. many of the photos are taken at midday. Even I can tell you that this is about the worst time of day to take photographs. because you will get washed out colors and harsh shadows. The bland photograph of the Golden Gate Bridge on the front cover should be a telltale sign of what is in store for rest of the book. I am an amateur. and I can tell you it really isnt very difficult to take a much more stunning photograph of this beautiful landmark. Its just hard to believe that this is the best he can come up with.I have been disappointed with other books in this series. specifically The Photographers Guide to Death Valley (The Photographers Guide). Both books suffer from a lack of quality in photos and advice. The color in both books lacks vibrance. which may be in part due to inferior printing. A photography book should be a pleasure to look through. and I cant say that is true about either one of these books. As an alternative. I recommend Photographing San Francisco Digital Field Guide. which contains outstanding photos and excellent advice.
