The Photographer's Lighting Toolbox

[audiobook] The Photographer's Lighting Toolbox by Brian Stoppee at Arts-Photography

Description

Globalism is often discussed using abstract terms; such as lsquo;networksrsquo; or lsquo;flowsrsquo; and usually in relation to recent history. Global Design History moves us past this limited view of globalism; broadening our sense of this key term in history and theory. Individual chapters focus our attention on objects; and the stories they can tell us about cultural interactions on a global scale. They place these concrete things into contexts; such as trade; empire; mediation; and various forms of design practice. Among the varied topics included are: the global underpinnings of Renaissance material culturethe trade of Indian cottons in the eighteenth-centurythe Japanese tea ceremony as a case of lsquo;import substitutionrsquo; German design in the context of empire handcrafted modernist furniture in Turkey Australian fashions employing lsquo;ethnicrsquo; motifs an experimental UK-Ghanaian design partnershipChinese social networking websites the international circulation of contemporary architects.Featuring work from leading design historians; each chapter is paired with a lsquo;responsersquo;; designed to expand the discussion and test the methodologies on offer. An extensive bibliography and resource guide will also aid further research; providing students with a user friendly model for approaches to global design.?Global Design History will be useful for upper-level undergraduate and postgraduate students; academics and researchers in design history and art history; and related subjects such as anthropology; craft studies and cultural geography.

Highly recommend it to *any* PhotographerBy cloudyLiterally every time I want to do a shot I havent done before its usually explained in this book. Five StarsBy R SchwalkClear and concise information on lighting equipment.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Absolutely wonderful! (Even if you dont shoot Nikon!)By ProAudioAn absolutely great resource for the amateur and early pro alike.Brian Stoppee has been able to answer many questions that dont become apparent until you start to look at the myriad of equipment from vendors as a newer photographer.Brian goes on to explain many of the simplest things that professionals and very serious amateurs take for granted everyday i.e.: gimble mounts. snoots. speed rings. umbrellas. reflection media. arms. knuckles and heads to name just a very few items. subjects and there use.Light tents and HMI lighting are even discussed. Use of light and suggestions are also widely available and spot on!I checked this book out as a first user at a local library and found myself having to pay a fine for not returning it in time! I just had found that I didnt want to return it right away! With the pricing and super saver shipping you wont be wasting your money unless you are an active professional photographer that knows all of it (really some say they do!). Seriously though this book is great for the photographer that wants more than auto mode / on camera flash results. The properties of light (not all but the most important ones) are discussed in a very simple to understand writing and ample illustrations. Even a section on colored gel media filters. If you are a making a living in photography most all of this is second hat to you and probably be akin to the ASE certified auto mechanic getting a book on how to change the oil etc. in your car. On the other hand if you or a gift recipient aspire to either become professionals or want to understand what it takes with regard to lighting and the hardware to go with it than this book is a bargain at less than $20. By the way. a very large note too appears on the second page into the book cleary stating that this book is NOT exclusively for Nikon users etc. I currently shoot K-7 Pentax and have owned Canon DSLRS too. I can clearly say that the enire book is geared to ALL! I didnt feel at all that it was "slanted toward Nikon". That is the camera of choice for Mr. Stoppe. My choice happens to be Pentax (for now....)Thanks Brian!
